Police Parades Kidnapping Suspects Who Threw Victim Into Okija River

The Imo State Police Command has apprehended a notorious gang of armed robbers and kidnappers who terrorized the state lately.

The suspects, Obi Chidera Collins, Awaziama Jude, and Ejionye Darlington, were paraded alongside other suspected criminals at the police command headquarters in Owerri.

According to the police spokesperson, Henry Okoye (ASP), the gang invaded the residence of Mr. Obi Fredrick on April 6, 2024, abducted and robbed him of N9 million and his Lexus 330 RX SUV.

He said the inflicted deep machete cuts on his hands and threw him into the Okija River in Anambra State.

“However, through swift data-tracking analysis, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit rescued the victim from the river the same night and recovered his stolen SUV.

“The gang continued their reign of terror, invaded lthe residence of the victim’s brother, abducting his pregnant wife and four-year-old son, and holding them hostage in their hideout at Eziama Ubulu in Oru-West LGA of Imo State.

“Following technical intelligence, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit stormed the hideout, dislodged the kidnappers, arrested one suspect, Obi Chidera Collins, and rescued the victims unhurt.

“The suspect’s confessions led to the arrest of two members of his criminal syndicate, Awaziama Jude and Ejionye Darlington. A locally-made gun with two live cartridges was recovered from the suspects” the Police spokesman stated.

The police said they are currently investigating to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
