The Imo State Election Petitions Tribunal will deliver its judgment on Friday, May 24, 2024, in the petition filed by Senator Athan Achonu, the Labour Party governorship candidate in the November 11, 2023, governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the election.
However, Achonu and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, have challenged INEC’s declaration in at the election petitions tribunal.
The Labour Party’s Legal Adviser in Imo State, Ihejirika Emeka Esq, in a statement expressed optimism that “our (LP) petition will find merit in the eyes of the learned Tribunal Judges.”
He added, “We still have confidence in the judiciary and believe that the Tribunal will be guided by law and evidence in delivering judgment.”
The venue for the Tribunal’s sitting is the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja.
