OYC Urges Otti To Intervene In Military Intimidation Of Innocent Civilians In Aba

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has written an open letter to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, requesting his prompt intervention in the intimidation, maltreatment, and illegal arrest of innocent citizens by the Nigerian military in Aba.

The letter, signed by Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, National President General, and Comrade Ifeanyi Nweke, Secretary General, condemned the killing of four Nigerian soldiers by unknown gunmen and urged the governor to use his executive order to stop the ongoing harassment of civilians.

“We appeal to you to use your executive order to stop the ongoing illegal arrest, maltreatment, and intimidation of innocent civilians in Aba, Abia State, by the Nigerian military,” the letter read.

The council demanded the release of those arrested on May 31st in Aba and Obingwa LGA and urged the governor to ensure that those involved in the killing of the soldiers are arrested and made to face the law.

The OYC expressed concern over the Nigerian military’s tradition of unleashing their anger on innocent civilians, leading to unhealthy mass provocation and potential civil unrest.

The letter concluded, “We know that as a good democrat, you will swing into action to ensure that all innocent civilians arrested by the military in Aba, Abia State, are released with immediate effect and also stop further illegal arrests.”
