“Imo Council Of Elders Must Review Implementation Modality Of Imo Charter Of Equity”- Okigwe Global Elders Forum
Leaders of Okigwe zone have reaffirmed their determination to produce Governor Hope Uzodimma’s successor in 2027, based on the Imo Charter of Equity.
The resolution was made at a strategic meeting of Okigwe Global Elders Forum, held at the palace of HRM Eze Oliver Ohanwe, Chairman of Okigwe Zone Council of Traditional Rulers.
The meeting was attended by top politicians, traditional rulers, captains of industry, and academics from the zone, who all spoke with one voice on the need for Okigwe zone to produce the next governor of Imo State in 2027.
The meeting also held amid political tension between Owerri and Okigwe zones over the Imo Charter of Equity.
However, Okigwe zone leaders, at the meeting, took decisive steps to showcase their readiness to succeed in their quest to take over from Governor Hope Uzodimma in 2027.
They adopted a document titled Imo Charter of Equity: The Stand of Okigwe People, presented to the Imo State Council of Elders led by HRM Eze (Dr) Cletus Illomuanya by the Okigwe Global Elders Forum.
The document noted, among other things, that Okigwe zone’s mandate was truncated in 2011 and demanded completion of their eight-year tenure before power goes to Owerri zone.
The document further detailed Okigwe Zone’s marginalization since 1999 and urged the Imo State Council of Elders to review the implementation modality.
Part of the document reads, “We are vehemently opposed to the Council’s decision on the modality for the implementation by which the Office of the Governor of Imo State is programmed to rotate from Orlu to Owerri zone in 2027.”
Chief Tony Chukwu, a prominent businessman and politician from the zone, expressed his total support for the project. He said, “The hand of God is on this project.”
Senator Patrick Ndubueze, representing Okigwe zone in the Senate, declared, “I support the Okigwe position 100 percent.”

Several speakers, including Paul Emeziem, former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly; Hon. E.E. Osuagwu, a former lawmaker; and Eze Daniel Emereonye, Secretary-General of the Orlu Council of Traditional Rulers, spoke in favour of the resolution and the document.
