A good leader is naturally a blessing to his/her family, kindred, village and community. He/she is imbued with wisdom, sense of patriotism, chivalry, understanding, tolerance and humility to enable him lead credibly and exemplary with excellent results being achieved and sustained at all times.
These sweet ingredients, among others, are permanently embedded in any charismatic leader no matter the position he/she finds himself/herself. Although, many are born leaders, some are made leaders. The truth remains that a fine leader is a godly human.
Imperatively, the current President General of Assa autonomous community in Ohaji/ Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, Comrade Reward Evans, has shown that he has the mental and physical capacities to lead the Town Union to achieve positive development at the oil rich community.
The new leadership of Assa Town Union, to the chargrin of many people, especially those who do not know them better, demonstrated their leadership capacity as they respectively paid a Courtesy Visit to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Rubby Emele and the Commissioner of Information, Hon. Declan Emelumba, in their offices in Owerri recently, few days after they formally assumed office.
Comrade Reward Evans who led the Assa Town Union executive to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, requested the state government to look inwards and address the social and economic challenges militating against the community.
They were bold enough to remind government that functional social amenities such as electricity, roads, water scheme, hospitals, including markets and solid schools structures need to be built and installed in Assa.
They recommended that when the community is socially beautified and economically advanced, peace, conviviality, relaxation, security and prosperity will always be the order of the day as youths will think more positively, engage in productive activities, thereby become more useful and humane.
Emphatically, the Assa Town Union President General asserted that “since the creation of the world, our people have never shouted ‘Up NEPA’ coupled with calculated neglect by Oil Companies operating in our Area. Some of our pregnant women often die on the road before they are conveyed to hospitals in the state capital because of the absence of quality and affordable hospitals in the community. We urge government to urgently intervene and do the needful to strengthen goodness and progress”.
He stressed that “women are mostly affected by maternal deaths. Our people have been highly marginalized coupled with neglect from the Government and Oil Companies operating in our area, but with your aptness, kindness and rapt attention, we rationally seek for quick government intervention as the community consciously leans on the 3R Government being championed by Governor Hope Uzodimma to effect a positive change”.
He stated that the people of Assa Ohaji will always have full joy when their community is richly, socially, economically developed. He added that the natural resources God blessed the community with should be judiciously used to the benefit of all and sundry with a view to improving good living and goodness therein.
These demands among other needs by the Assa Town Union Leadership should be urgently addressed by the State Government and the Oil Companies operating at the area. By so doing poverty, restiveness, crime and insecurity will drastically, minimally reduced.
Hence, the President General of Assa Town Union is urging every indigene of the agrarian and oil rich community to join hands to arrest their social, economic challenges for improved goodness and progress.
With unity of purpose coupled with patriotism and rationality which the new Assa autonomous community Town Union Leaders have practically demonstrated few days upon assumption into office, there is going to be huge success and joy at the area.
However, the Imo State Government and the Oil Multinationals operating in Assa Ohaji should hasten as to meet the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) healthily reached with the host community to Address economic and social deficiencies beclouding the area.
