The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the election of Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, dismissing the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Samuel Anyawu.
The appeal challenged the decision of the Imo State tribunal that affirmed Uzodinma’s election, but the court ruled that the appeal lacked merit, resolving all issues in favor of the respondents.
The Court of Appeal also dismissed the appeals filed by the Labour Party and its candidate, Achonu Nneji, and the Allied Peoples Movement, for lacking merit.
The appellants had approached the court, citing non-compliance with the Electoral Act and alleging that Uzodinma’s WAEC certificate was forged. However, the court found that the appellants failed to prove their allegations.
The three-man panel led by Justice Bitrus Sanga delivered the judgment, dismissing the appeals and affirming Uzodinma’s position as the duly elected governor.
