Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has sworn in 10 new judges, charging them to carry themselves with dignity and honour in the dispensation of justice.
The judges – seven for the High Courts and three for the Customary Courts of Appeal – took the oath of office at the New Executive Chambers, Owerri.
Governor Uzodimma emphasized the importance of integrity and honour in the dispensation of justice, urging the judges to resist the temptation to do otherwise.
He reminded them that, after God, they hold the power to determine who lives or dies, and therefore must approach their responsibility with seriousness.
The Governor congratulated the judges on their appointment, describing it as a remarkable lift in their legal career.
He enjoined them to uphold a high level of integrity and honour, dispensing justice without fear or favour.
Governor Uzodimma announced the gift of brand new Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for 16 judges, including the newly sworn-in 10 judges.
The judges, in an acceptance speech, thanked God Almighty, the Governor, and the Chief Judge of Imo State for their support, promising not to let them down.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. COC Akaolisa, thanked the Governor for appointing the judges, describing their inauguration as a good thing happening to the judiciary in Imo State.
The ceremony was witnessed by dignitaries from the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of government, as well as traditional, religious, business, and academic leaders.
