The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone C (South East), has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the country’s economic challenges.
The communique, issued after a Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) meeting in Awka, Anambra State, urged the government to find workable solutions to the “stifling economic conditions” faced by Nigerians.
The NUJ also commended South East Governors for their efforts to curb insecurity in the region, but urged them to intensify measures to make the Zone more peaceful and investor-friendly.
The Union called on the Governors to collaborate and create a conducive environment for investors to grow the economy of the Zone.
ZEC also tasked South East businessmen and women to invest in the Zone, citing the “Aku ruo ulo” philosophy, to create jobs for the teeming youth.
The NUJ frowned at the militarization of the South East Zone, describing it as “embarrassing” and called for the dismantling of checkpoints along Federal and State roads.
ZEC members commended the NUJ National President, Chief Dr Chris Isiguzo, for his leadership qualities and congratulated Achike Chude and Tita Onyebuchi Nze on their emergence as National Secretary and National Assistant Secretary respectively.
The Union expressed satisfaction with the leadership of the NUJ in Zone C and endorsed Cimrade (Sir) Emmanuel Ifesinachi and Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku for another term in office.
“We urge President Tinubu to take immediate action to address the economic challenges facing Nigerians,” said Emmanuel Ifesinachi, Zonal Vice President.
“We also call on South East Governors to work together to make the Zone more peaceful and investor-friendly,” added Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku, Zonal Secretary.
The communique was signed by Emmanuel Ifesinachi and Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku.
The NUJ Zone C meeting was attended by Chairmen and Secretaries from the five Councils in the Zone and all National Officers of NUJ including NAWOJ from the Zone.
