There are strong indications that Emeka Ihedioha, a former governor of Imo State, has concluded plans to officially join the Labour Party.
Ihedioha had dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) months ago after opting out of the party’s gubernatorial primary.
He is expected to run for Imo governorship in 2027.
In January 2020, he was sacked as governor by the Supreme Court and replaced with Senator Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
It was learnt that the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, and other top leaders of the Labour Party, are expected to grace Ihedioha’s declaration for the Labour Party.
While no date has been fixed for the event, this newspaper learnt that it will take place latest second week of September in Owerri.
“Ihedioha had wanted to join the Labour Party for a long time.
“He waited for the party’s governorship candidate in the November 11, 2023 governorship election, Senator Athan Achonu to conclude his case at the Supreme Court against Hope Uzodimma, before officially joining the Labour Party”
“Now that the matter has ended with the apex court pronouncing Uzodimma winner, the coast is now clear for the former governor and his Rebuild Imo group, to cross over to the Labour Party” the source told INNONEWS.
Shortly after he quit the PDP, Ihedioha was spotted with Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, a meeting which fueled speculations that he is on his way to the Labour Party.
Otti was elected Abia State governor on the platform of the Labour Party in 2023.
