IJDD Condemns Pirate Attacks On Rivers State Waterways

Interstate Journalists for Democracy and Development, IJDD has condemned the incessant attacks and kidnap of passengers on water ways in Rivers State.

President of IJDD, Mr Emmanuel Chukwu in a press release on Thursday condemned the incessant attacks on passenger boats on water ways in Rivers State for robbery and kidnap of passengers for ransom.

IJDD described the development as wicked and barbaric as it endangers lives of innocent passengers who could neither swim nor escape in the event of any eventuality.

He called on Rivers State governor, Mr Similayi Fubara to set up anti piracy vigilante group to monitor the numerous water ways in the state, especially the Bonny Port Harcourt Water way.

IJDD said the resurgence of piracy targeting passenger boats has assumed a dangerous dimension with the kidnap of passengers for ransom.

The trend it said poses a threat to maritime transactions in the state and neighbouring littoral states.
