In a bid to stamp out kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes, the Imo State Police Command says it has launched a major operation in collaboration with the military.
In a statement signed by ASP Henry Okoye, Police spokesman, the joint effort, which began on Thursday, September 12, aims to dismantle criminal syndicates terrorizing residents in Obinze, Ihiagwa, Avu, Federal University of Technology (FUTO) axis in Owerri, and other areas of the state.
According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, the operation is a response to recent reports of increased kidnapping incidents in the affected areas.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our communities,” Danjuma was quoted to have said
. “Our objective is to enhance peace and security in the state and guarantee safe environments for learning.”
The police commissioner solicited the maximum cooperation of the general public in the effort, urging residents to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station promptly or via 0803 477 3600.
“By working together, we can effectively combat these criminal elements,” Danjuma added.
“The operation will leverage the combined expertise and resources of both agencies to bring those responsible for these criminal acts to justice” part of the statement stated.
