The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has denied allegations of fraud and scamming aspirants in the recently conducted party primaries.
In a press release signed by Cajetan Duke, State Publicity Secretary and made available to INNONEWS, the party described the claims as “malicious and misleading”.
The party was reacting to plans by some aggrieved Chairmanship and Councillorship aspirants to embark on protest in Owerri to demand refund of their money used to purchase Nomination Forms.
The APC stated that the primaries were conducted peacefully, fairly, and credibly through a consensus process recognized by the party’s constitution.
The party also denied claims that unidentified people were produced as Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates, stating that the winners were duly elected through a consensus arrangement.
The APC further clarified that the issue of refunding money to aspirants was a mere suggestion by Governor Hope Uzodinma aimed at placating those who respected the consensus arrangement.
The party urged the public to disregard the allegations, describing them as “a figment of the imagination of the authors”.
The party warned those behind the malicious article to desist from their activities, threatening legal action if they continue to peddle falsehoods.
The APC expressed appreciation for the support and solidarity of the people, urging party members to remain faithful and dependable.
The party said it is looking forward to a victorious outing in the forthcoming local government election and assured that victory will go round, urging former aspirants who lost out in the primaries to remain hopeful.
“The party’s State Working Committee, led by Hon. MacDonald Ebere, is committed to ensuring a united and strong APC in Imo State” part of the statement stated.
