The National Burial Committee for Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, late president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has announced the burial schedule for the elder statesman.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Ben Obi, disclosed that Iwuanyanwu will be laid to rest on November 1, 2024, in his country home, Attah, Ikeduru LGA of Imo State.
According to him,the burial rites will commence with Lagos Day of Tributes: October 16, 2024, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Abuja Day of Tributes,October 18, 2024, at the National Ecumenical Centre, Enugu Day of Tributes: October 26, 2024, with a stopover at Ohanaeze Headquarters, Service of Songs,October 29, in Attah, Ikeduru LGA of Imo State
Senator Obi assured that Igbo leaders will continue to pursue Iwuanyanwu’s vision for the South East region, including restructuring Nigeria and securing the release of leader of Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
“Iwuanyanwu was passionate about equity and justice for the Igbo in a restructured Nigeria. We will engage with other ethnic groups to achieve this goal,” Obi stated.
He said the committee will work with South East governors, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, to secure federal government participation in the burial.
According to him stakeholders in the aviation, engineering, and football sectors will also be engaged.
Ohanaeze National Publicity Secretary, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, noted that Iwuanyanwu had no regrets over his struggles for restructuring and Kanu’s release, citing his last official assignment as a visit to the Department of State Services (DSS) to see Nnamdi Kanu.
