The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused President Bola Tinubu of deceiving organized labor into accepting the proposed N70,000 national minimum wage, only to increase petrol prices, effectively undermining the wage’s benefits.
NLC President ,Joe Ajaero made the shocking revelation at a workshop in Lagos, stressing the urgent need for the government to address rising hunger and poverty among Nigerians.
Ajaero alleged that Tinubu suggested a wage increase to N250,000 in exchange for allowing petrol prices to rise during negotiations.
The NLC leader emphasized that this would not alleviate economic hardship, as escalating costs would negate any wage benefits.
“NLC plans to engage the federal government to discuss how workers can cope with the recent petrol price increases”he said
Ajaero expressed frustration over the government’s distraction tactics, diverting attention from critical issues like the petrol price hikes.
“The situation is becoming increasingly untenable, with Nigerians struggling to make ends meet. The NLC insists that the government must take immediate action to restore confidence in its commitments to labour”he said.
