Political maneuverings are intensifying as discussions surrounding the formation of a new mega party, expected to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, continue to unfold.
Several prominent politicians from Imo State, including a former governor, a one time senator have delayed switching party affiliations as they await the official launch of the new political movement.
Sources reveal to INNONEWS that aggrieved members of the APC, along with disillusioned figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party, are in advanced talks to establish this mega party.
Proponents of the mega party aims to capitalize on growing dissatisfaction with the APC and the internal crises plaguing the PDP.
Meetings have been held in Abuja, with indications that the party could be formally unveiled by the first quarter of next year.
Among the notable figures alleged to be keeping a close eye on these developments is a former Imo State Governor who recently left a leading opposition party but has yet to join another political party.
Speculation about his next move intensified after he was seen in discussions with Labour Party leaders, including 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.
However, the ongoing leadership crisis within the Labour Party is reportedly stalling his decision, and his huge group of political followers.
Other key Imo politicians, including a former senator and some gubernatorial hopefuls from the State, are said to be waiting for the new party’s formation before making any major political moves.
These high profile politicians are said to view the emerging party as a viable alternative to both the APC and the PDP, which they argue have failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
Insiders close to the former senator expressed optimism about the potential of the new mega party.
“We need a fresh start in this country, and a new political platform could provide the change Nigerians and the people of Imo State are looking for,” a source stated, adding that such a movement could reshape the political dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections in the country and the State.
