As part of his ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts, Chief (Barr) Engr. Success Akagburuonye, President of Hope Rising for Imolites and a prominent real estate developer, visited the Owerri Correctional Centre, Owerri, where he doled out relief items and offered encouragement to the inmates.
Akagburuonye’s donations, worth millions of naira, included medical supplies, drugs, mattresses, and other essentials, sparked hope and gratitude among both inmates and prison officials.
Speaking to the inmates during a special church service, Akagburuonye urged them to hold fast to their faith and not to lose hope, despite their circumstances.
“Your prison experience should not deter you from having faith in God,”
“This is a process and a stage in life that you will overcome.” he said amidst thunderous ovation from the inmates.
Akagburuonye encouraged the inmates to stay united, work together, and maintain a cooperative relationship with the wardens.
He emphasized that his Foundation’s support for the inmates was driven by his personal experiences and commitment to helping the less privileged.
“When I had a similar experience, I came out stronger, and that is why I am here today—to share that strength with you.”he said.
The visit also marked a new beginning for infrastructural improvements at the Prison facility.
Akagburuonye, along with senior members of his Foundation, inspected the correctional centre’s deteriorating infrastructure and pledged to embark on the renovation of critical facilities, including an overflowing sewage system, the kitchen, and a craft shop.
“This is just the start.We’ll be back to continue supporting the centre through Hope Rising for Imolites,” he promised.
In his remarks, the Controller of the Owerri Correctional Centre, C.E. Eke, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Akagburuonye’s contributions.
Eke said Akagburuonye’s generosity to the inmates is in line with the mandate of the Centre, which is to keep, correct, reform, and reintegrate the inmates.
“We have never seen such support and a gesture like this.
“It is unique and rare, and we truly appreciate it immensely.”he said.
He also praised Akagburuonye’s kindness, expressing the Correction Centre’s commitment to collaborate with him.
“This visit is a testament to Akagburuonye’s dedication to uplifting lives.
. “May his example inspire others to reach out and support those in need.”he said.
Alongside the relief materials, the Hope Rising medical team provided free health checks and treatments for inmates suffering from various ailments.
Items donated included essential medicines, mattresses, pillows, and other items necessary for improving the inmates’ daily lives.
Addressing the inmates, Emeka Emekasiri, Director General of Hope Rising for Imolites, described Akagburuonye as a man who genuinely cares about the down trodden
“Chief Akagburuonye’s vision is to inspire hope and make a real impact in the lives of those who feel forgotten,” Emekasiri said.
The inmates and prison officials expressed deep appreciation for Akagburuonye’s generosity.with many feeling uplifted by his words and actions.
