Tragic Road Accident Claims 17 Lives In Imo

A horrific road accident has claimed the lives of seventeen people, including a commercial bus driver and two conductors, at Njaba bridge, along the busy Owerri- Orlu Road in Imo State.

The tragic collision occurred on Tuesday when a tipper truck swerved into the path of an 18-seater bus, leaving no survivors on board, according to eyewitness reports.

Witnesses at the scene said the tipper driver, attempting to avoid a large pothole, veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the commercial bus.

“It was a terrible sight. The impact was so severe that it left everyone in the bus dead,” one onlooker told this newspaper

The tipper driver reportedly sustained critical injuries and was found unconscious after the crash.

Local residents who arrived at the scene described a grim aftermath, with some victims’ bodies trapped beneath the crushed vehicles.

Emergency responders and onlookers worked to extract the bodies, which were then transported to a nearby morgue.

Efforts to reach Okoye Henry, spokesperson for the Imo State Police, were unsuccessful as of press time.
