The Owerri Zone Awareness Coalition (OZAC), a prominent socio-political organization, has raised the alarm over alleged plans by certain groups to mislead governorship aspirants from Owerri Zone ahead of the 2027 Imo State governorship election.
In a statement signed by OZAC President, Emmanuel Okwu the group accused some groups of operating under the guise of advocating for an Owerri Zone governorship while secretly working for a preferred candidate. He warned Owerri zone guber aspirants to be vigilant against these deceptive practices.
“One of these groups is going around soliciting financial support in the name of promoting an Owerri Zone Governor
“But we in OZAC are fully aware that they have already settled on a candidate to support, long before the 2027 governorship election.” Okwu stated.
He described these actions as treacherous and damaging to the credibility of Owerri Zone’s quest for the governorship in 2027.
“This is the highest level of deceit. It is no wonder sister zones like Okigwe and Orlu are hesitant to openly support some pro-Owerri groups. Such actions tarnish the collective effort for an Owerri Zone governor,” he said.
According to him, one of the groups allegedly being sponsored by an aspiring governorship candidate is actively deceiving other aspirants into providing financial contributions under false pretenses.
“This is modern-day fraud. We strongly advise Owerri Zone aspirants to be cautious and avoid falling victim to the antics of these groups,” he warned.
Okwu noted that while some groups are engaged in dishonest practices, there are genuine organizations genuinely championing the cause of an Owerri Zone governor.
“We are aware of credible groups with clear intentions and transparent motives. These groups are well-known, and their efforts are sincere,” he added.
OZAC also called on those exploiting the Owerri Zone governorship project for personal gain to desist immediately.
“We know the genuine groups, and we advise those who see the Owerri Zone Guber project as a money-making venture to abandon such dubious practices,” Okwu emphasized.
OZAC urged Owerri zone governorship aspirants to prioritize unity and integrity in the zone’s efforts to secure the governorship.
“We believe in a fair and transparent process. Let all stakeholders work towards achieving the dream of an Owerri Zone governor in 2027 without resorting to deceit or exploitation,” Okwu concluded.
