Elder statesman and political leader in Abia State, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, has praised the appointments of Barr. Emeka Wogu and Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka as the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director (Finance), respectively, of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
Speaking to reporters, Chief Ogbonnaya described the duo as highly qualified for their new roles, emphasizing their distinguished records in public service. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he called a “meticulous and thoughtful” selection process for the leadership of the newly established SEDC.
“These appointments are well-deserved. Emeka Wogu and Stanley Ohajuruka are not just Abia sons; they are men of integrity and competence, whose antecedents speak volumes. I have no doubt they will deliver,” Chief Ogbonnaya stated.
Highlighting the credentials of the appointees, Chief Ogbonnaya noted that Emeka Wogu, a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, has extensive experience in governance and policymaking.
“As a friend of mine, I can vouch for Emeka Wogu’s capacity and integrity. He is a loyal party man and will not want to disappoint himself or those who recommended him for this role,” he said.
On Stanley Ohajuruka, Chief Ogbonnaya commended his administrative expertise, saying, “The Executive Director (Finance) nominee, who is my brother, is a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and a seasoned administrator. He will bring his vast experience to bear on this assignment.”
Chief Ogbonnaya, a two-term Commissioner in Abia State and a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also noted that the appointments have been widely welcomed by the Abia APC and the entire state.
“These are our ‘first eleven,’ and the people of Abia are proud to have them represent us in such significant positions,” he added.
The elder statesman called on leaders and citizens across the South East to support the newly constituted board and management of the SEDC.
He stressed that collaboration is crucial for the commission to achieve its objectives as an interventionist agency dedicated to the region’s development.
Chief Ogbonnaya also applauded the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for his major role in the establishment of the SEDC and the appointments of its leadership team.
“I see the imprint of Rt. Hon. Kalu in all that has happened. He is a patriot and a tremendous asset to Nigeria and Ndigbo. His selfless and visionary leadership is a rarity among young politicians,” he said.
