The Imo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is in mourning following the sudden demise of its Vice Chairman, Comrade Rotr. Emmanuel Odibo.

Odibo, a native of Obizi in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, after a brief illness.

In a statement signed by the NUJ Imo State Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma JP, the union expressed its grief over the loss of Mr. Odibo, whom it described as a repository of journalistic experience and wisdom.

“The death of Comrade Odibo has dealt a big blow to members of the union. We shall miss his wealth of knowledge and experience, which endeared him to us all,” the statement read.

The NUJ revealed that Odibo’s contributions to the growth and credibility of the journalism profession in Imo State were unparalleled.

In his reaction, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, commiserated with the NUJ over the death of Mr. Odibo.

In a statement signed by his media adviser, Dr. Ikenna Onuoha, Anyanwu described Odibo as a “dedicated news hunter” whose professional legacy will not be forgotten.

“Odibo was a devout journalist, a refined administrator, and a profound gentleman who displayed unparalleled professional excellence.

“His passing is a significant loss not only to the NUJ but to the entire media community,” Anyanwu stated.

He further urged journalists to honour Odibo’s legacy by upholding the principles of integrity and investigative journalism.

“His unbiased approach and dedication inspired confidence in the profession and nurtured aspiring journalists.

“Odibo’s life and work exemplified a rare dedication to humanity and society through the lens of truthful journalism. Let his legacies provide solace to those grieving, and may his memory inspire others to uphold the values he lived by,” Anyanwu added.
