The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone C, is in mourning following two devastating losses: the death of the wife of the Vice President of NUJ Zone D, Comrade Adeiza Momoh Jimoh, and the passing of the Vice Chairman of the Imo State Council, Comrade Emma Odibo.
In a statement signed by the Zonal Secretary, Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku, Zone C of NUJ expressed heartfelt condolences to Comrade Jimoh over the demise of his wife, describing the loss as profound and deeply painful.
“Her exit is very painful, as a wife is the closest confidant of a man, and we understand what it feels like to lose such a dear companion,” the statement read.
It commiserated with Comrade Jimoh, his family, and Zone D members during this difficult time, acknowledging the late wife’s legacy of love and empathy.
“We take solace in the fact that she used her time on earth to show love and empathy to everyone around her,” Comrade Adiuku noted.
The union also prayed for divine comfort for the bereaved family, urging them to remain strong despite the loss.
“It is God that giveth life, and to Him alone we shall all return someday. May the Almighty grant her eternal rest and you the fortitude to bear her demise,” the statement added.
In a related development, NUJ Zone C expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Comrade Emma Odibo, Vice Chairman of the NUJ Imo State Council, who passed away last Monday.
According to Adiuku, the late Comrade Odibo was celebrated as an experienced journalist and a committed unionist who served the NUJ in various capacities, including as a former member of the National Executive Council (NEC).
“He was a true professional, having worked for many years in the newsrooms of prominent tabloids,” Zone C stated.
The union highlighted Odibo’s contributions to the growth of private newspapers in the Southeast and his unwavering dedication to journalism.
“He worked tirelessly to enhance private newspaper publishing in Imo State and served the union with commitment and dedication,” said Adiuku.
The Union extended condolences to Odibo’s immediate family and the Imo State Council, praying for strength to bear the untimely loss.
“We hope he is resting in the bosom of his Creator, where there will be no more pain or worries,” the statement read.
