The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri has expressed deep regret over the tragic shooting incident that occurred on the eve of the New Year at St. Columbia’s Catholic Church, Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, which led to the death of a young man and injury of another.
In a statement released by the Archdiocese, His Grace, Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, offering prayers for the eternal rest of the departed soul and for the swift recovery of the wounded individual.
“We are deeply saddened by the senseless loss of life and the injury caused by this unfortunate incident “We stand with the grieving family and offer our prayers during this difficult time. ”the Archbishop stated
The statement further confirmed that the police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Archdiocese urged the faithful of St. Columbia’s Parish, Amaimo, to remain calm and composed while the investigation is ongoing.
It also called for prayers for peace and healing, as the community comes to terms with this disturbing event. Archbishop Ugorji also emphasized the importance of unity and peace in the face of such violence.
“The Church is committed to supporting the victims, their families, and the entire community in this trying period. We ask everyone to be patient and allow the authorities to do their work,” he concluded.
