A resurfaced video has shown Governor Hope Uzodimma pledging to ensure that the next governor of the state after his tenure will emerge from Owerri Zone in accordance to the dictates of the Imo Charter Of Equity.
The video captured the governor addressing members of the Imo State Elders Council at the Executive Chambers of the Government House in Owerri in 2024.
In the clip, Uzodimma categorically stated that the next governor will not come from Orlu Zone.
Orlu Zone has produced three governors—Achike Udenwa, Rochas Okorocha, and Uzodimma himself—spanning nearly 24 years by the end of his tenure in 2027.
Owerri Zone’s only governorship stint lasted seven months under Emeka Ihedioha, who was removed from office following a Supreme Court judgment in 2020.
