Former Inspector General of Police and a candidate in the Ohanaeze Ndigbo presidential race, Mike Okiro, has dismissed claims that a court order barred him from contesting in the election.
Okiro, who spoke at a news conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said Nigerians and Ndigbo worldwide, condemned what he described as misleading media reports.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Ndigbo worldwide, my supporters, Nigerians, there was no court order at all in the court proceedings.
NO COURT ORDER BARRING ME FROM THE ELECTION. What the media showed the world was false, deceitful, and misleading, and I fell into it because I am law-abiding,” he stated.
Okiro clarified the legal proceedings, referring to a suit filed by Comrade Chimenu Amadi at the High Court of Enugu State, presided over by Honourable Justice N.R. Oji.
The suit sought an order to prevent his participation in the screening and election process for the President-General position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
According to Okiro, the court granted leave for the applicants to serve the respondents, including him, but did not issue an order barring his participation in the election.
He urged the public to disregard false narratives and focus on fostering unity within the Ohanaeze Ndigbo organization.
Senator John Azuta Mbata was on Friday, January 10, 2025, elected the 13th President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Enugu.
