Approximately 3,690 Nigerians living in the United States are at risk of deportation as President Donald Trump launches an aggressive crackdown on illegal immigration, fulfilling campaign promises to tighten border security.
According to reports, a document from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), outlines the scope of the operation. It reveals that as of November 24, 2024, there are 1,445,549 individuals on ICE’s non-detained docket with final removal orders.
This list includes nationals from various countries, with Mexico and Nicaragua leading the tally at 252,044 and 45,955 individuals, respectively.
Titled “Noncitizens on the ICE Non-Detained Docket with Final Orders of Removal by Country of Citizenship,” the report highlights the Trump administration’s intensified focus on illegal immigration.
ICE, tasked with safeguarding the nation from cross-border crime and unauthorized migration, has ramped up efforts to enforce deportation orders.
Last Thursday, hundreds of migrants were detained during coordinated raids, with some flown out of the US on military aircraft.
Trump’s policies, which include the deployment of additional troops to the US-Mexico border and ending birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants, have escalated fears among migrant communities.
The Nigerians in the US, mostly those from the Southern part of the country, are now on edge, anticipating heightened scrutiny.
Reports indicate that Africans, including Nigerians, may soon face mass deportation operations under the Trump administration’s sweeping immigration reforms.
The clampdown follows Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President, during which he signed executive orders declaring a national emergency at the southern border and pledging to deport “criminal aliens” as part of a broader security strategy.
