In a landmark show of unity and bipartisan collaboration, key leaders and stakeholders from the Owerri Zone have rallied behind Governor Hope Uzodimma, passing a unanimous vote of confidence in recognition of his transformative leadership and dedication to good governance in Imo State.
The endorsement, which cut across political divides, was solidified during a courtesy visit to the governor at the Executive Council Chamber, where representatives from the nine local government areas of Owerri Zone applauded Uzodimma’s developmental achievements.
The motion for the vote of confidence was moved by Hon. Tochi Okere, representing Owerri Federal Constituency, and seconded by Hon. Samuel Otuibe of Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency. It received overwhelming approval from all present, underscoring the collective satisfaction with Uzodimma’s performance.
Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho, who led the delegation, lauded the governor’s efforts in transforming Owerri Zone, particularly through high-quality road construction projects. He described Uzodimma as “performing absolutely well,” adding that the governor’s commitment to equity and justice makes him a beacon of hope for the region.
Iheanacho also emphasized the importance of respecting the Charter of Equity, which he believes positions the Owerri Zone to produce the next governor of Imo State after Uzodimma’s tenure.
Other prominent voices at the gathering included Ambassador Kema Chikwe and General C.R.V. Ihekire, who expressed gratitude for the governor’s openness and his acknowledgment of the zone’s needs. Chikwe highlighted the significance of bipartisan representation at the meeting, describing it as a testament to Uzodimma’s inclusive leadership style.
Hon. Akarachi Amadi, representing Mbaitoli/Ikeduru in the House of Representatives, praised the governor for empowering the zone by appointing a Deputy Governor from Owerri in both his tenures. “Governor Uzodimma has shown us immeasurable love and commitment, and the entire zone stands firmly with him,” Amadi said.
He further noted that Uzodimma’s leadership has brought unprecedented development to the zone, both in infrastructure and political appointments, leading to a mass alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his response, Governor Uzodimma expressed heartfelt gratitude for the vote of confidence and urged the leaders to prioritize unity. “Go home, reconcile, and unite. Let us not overheat the polity so that we can continue to develop Imo State,” he advised.
The governor recalled the insecurity and loss of glory Imo State faced before his administration, expressing gratitude to God for the state’s recovery under his leadership. He reiterated his commitment to serving the people and working toward their expectations.
Uzodimma elaborated on his vision for unity in Imo State, citing the establishment of the Imo Elders Council as a critical step toward collective problem-solving. The council, which has been formalized through legislative backing, aims to rise above politics and prioritize truth and peace.
Looking ahead, the governor emphasized that his successor must prioritize the people’s agenda over personal interests. “While respecting the Charter of Equity, we must also consider merit. Imo State needs a focused, bold, and courageous leader. My prayer is for a successor who will fight for the people, not create problems,” he stated.
He further condemned primitive wealth acquisition by some politicians and called for diplomatic and team-oriented approaches to politics, particularly within the Owerri Zone.
The meeting, which brought together prominent figures such as Deputy Governor Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, Chief Lemmy Akakem, Chief Marcon Nlemigbo, Prince Charles Amadi, Dr. McDonald Ebere (APC State Chairman), and Chief Henry Njoku.
