A chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, has warned that the current Coalition being floated by some Nigerian politicians was a booby trap against the South.
He has therefore advised southerners to withdraw support from the Coalition, saying it was targeted at abridging the South’s hold on the presidency.
Chief Ogbonnaya, Evulogu Ibeku and former Commissioner in Abia state raised the alarm in a news conference in Umuahia, that the Coalition was a brain child of Northern political elites to wrestle power from the South against the principles of rotation of power between the two blocks.
” This is a booby trap against the South by the North . Those in the south should shun the so called Coalition because it aims to return power to the North in 2027″.
Chief Ogbonnaya noted that it was only when southerners were in power that some elements in the North would dream up the idea of changing power midstream.
According to him, ” They did it during the time of Jonathan and truncated that young man’s second tenure. But during Buhari’s time, we never heard of the word Coalition. Now that another Southerner is in power, they have come out again. “
He said in the likelihood that the Coalition fielded a southerner as the presidential candidate in 2027 and the person defeated Tinubu, the North would never allow him to serve for a second tenure.
The seasoned politician, therefore, urged Southerners and Ndigbo in particular to stay clear of the Coalition and instead support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
He said contrary to the false narrative being sold by those behind the Coalition, Tinubu has done well to deserve a second tenure.
He noted that apart from his economic reforms, which are yielding fruits, Tinubu is running an inclusive government that recognises and accommodates the strength of all the political zones as against the practice in the recent past.
Chief Ogbonnaya said Ndigbo in particular should be grateful to Tinubu for signing into law the South East Development Commission initiated by the Deputy Speaker of House of Representative, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu ,and other capital projects ongoing in the region.
He declared that since it was now obvious that Tinubu was righting the wrongs of the past ,Ndigbo should offer him unqualified support for 2027.
