Former Chelsea star John Mikel Obi has ruled out persuading Victor Osimhen to join the Blues, citing previous failed efforts. The Nigerian legend expressed concerns over Chelsea’s attacking lineup, particularly criticizing Nicholas Jackson’s performances.
Mikel has repeatedly voiced his belief that Osimhen would be a perfect fit for Chelsea’s attacking needs. However, he acknowledged that the striker has multiple offers from top clubs in Europe and beyond.
In a candid remark on the “Obi One Podcast,” Mikel praised Osimhen’s hunger, ambition, and confidence, labeling him a natural Premier League talent. Despite his support, Mikel admitted it’s ultimately up to Chelsea to make their move.
Mikel revealed he had advised Osimhen against joining the Saudi Pro League last summer, urging him to prioritize a move to Chelsea instead. “Saudi will always be there, but Chelsea offers something special,” Mikel said.
While Mikel’s words carried weight, he noted the difficulty of resisting the financial allure of Saudi Arabia. “At some point, it’s hard to say no to generational wealth,” he added.
Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, is thriving with 28 goals and five assists in 32 matches this season. His remarkable form has made him one of the most sought-after players globally.
