Nigeria’s Tyronne Ebuehi is thrilled to be back in action after a 13-month absence due to a severe knee injury. The Empoli defender made his season debut in a goalless draw against Cagliari in Serie A. He came on in the 65th minute, replacing Junior Sambia, as his team continues their fight against relegation.
The match at Stadio Carlo Castellani marked Ebuehi’s first appearance since suffering a cruciate ligament injury in March 2024. The injury kept him sidelined for over a year, derailing his previous campaign.
Reflecting on his return, the 29-year-old expressed determination to help Empoli in their survival battle.
Speaking to Italian media, Ebuehi said, “I’m happy to be back on the field. I feel ready and determined to give my contribution to achieve safety.”
Empoli remains in 18th place with 24 points, two short of safety with seven games remaining.
The club faces a tough test against Napoli on April 14 as they strive to escape relegation. Ebuehi remains optimistic, saying, “There are games to play and opportunities to exploit. We have to give it our all until the end.”
The Nigerian international joined Empoli in 2022, having previously played for Benfica II and Venezia. Across his Serie A career, Ebuehi has made 61 appearances, scoring twice and providing five assists.
