A coalition of political heavyweights, including two former governors of Imo State, a former minister has teamed up with other notable politicians across the country in a bid to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The group is spearheading discussions to form a united opposition capable of challenging the APC’s dominance in 2027.
One of former governors of Imo Stat is gearing up for a return to the Government House in 2027.
The coalition is being coordinated by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who is leading efforts to create a formidable political platform.
“This is not just about winning elections; it’s about offering Nigerians a credible alternative to the APC,” said a source familiar with the talks.
As part of their consultation efforts, the group has reached out to former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Although Buhari has declared his continued support for the APC, insiders suggest that some of his close allies are open to aligning with the opposition.

The coalition has also held discussions with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, a prominent figure in the coalition, has already joined the SDP from the APC.
