Imo State Govt Inaugurates Umuezeala- Amato ICT Centre

As part of efforts to promote Information And Communication Technology (ICT) education in rural areas of the State, to stimulate and enhance the interest of the growing youth population, His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma has, on 19/04/2025, inaugurated the Umuezeala-Amato ICT Centre in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.

The ICT Centre, initiated and facilitated by a patriotic son of Umuezeala-Amato-Alike community in Obowo Local Government Area, Mayor Theodore Aguh, aims to support education and sociocultural interaction amongst the people, especially the youths.

Governor Uzodimma, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, Hon Chief Barrister Enyinnaya Onuegbu, commended the facilitator (Mayor Theodore Okechukwu Aguh) for conceiving and initiating the idea of establishing an ICT Centre for his community, which he said blends with the vision of the Shared Prosperity Leadership in the State.

The Governor’s representative noted that since the world is a Global village, the administration has made efforts to provide ICT facilities in the State, and with the creation of the Ministry of Digital Economy And E-Government, a lot has been achieved. He therefore encouraged other Imo sons and daughters to emulate the patriotic spirit of Mayor Theodore Okechukwu Aguh. “As a government, we would like to associate with the initiative of Mayor Theodore Aguh. This ICT Centre is coming at the right time, as our youths would make a decent living from it. As you all know, the Governor created the Ministry of Digital Economy and appointed a Commissioner, who is doing wonderfully great. Barely six months ago, our dear Governor bagged the Digital Governor of the Year 2024 Award at the Nigeria Information Technology Merit Award, (NITMA), organized by the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS). The Award highlights the State Government’s efforts in leveraging technology for governance, economic growth and service delivery”.

On the presentation of the book, “History of Umuezeala Kindred In Amato-Alike-Obowo”, the Governor’s representative recommended it to every youth in the State, and thereafter supported it handsomely.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the facilitator of the ICT Centre, Mayor Theodore Okechukwu Aguh, explained that he envisioned the establishment of the Centre because of its befitting importance, as it would “support education and sociocultural interaction amongst the people”.

In his words, “with the establishment of this magnificent structure, one can, in the comfort of his room in Umuezeala do jobs in the United States of America, import from China, without traveling to these countries. Information and Communication have become vital in this modern times”.

He commended Governor Uzodimma for his giant strides in all sectors of the economy, describing him as an action, active and laudable voice in Infrastructural development of the state.

Rt Honourable Chike Okafor, the Member Representing Ehime Mbano/Obowo/Ihitte-Uboma Federal Constituency, appreciated the facilitator (Mayor Theodore Aguh) of the ICT Centre for his vision and industry, noting that Obowo have been known for great exploits, and that Mayor Theodore Aguh was following in the footsteps of their forefathers. “The significance of this event is that one person built and have to be commissioned an ICT centre”. Rt Honourable Chike Okafor noted.

While supporting the book launch, the Federal Ranking lawmaker used the occasion to also commend Governor Uzodimma for interconnecting the entire state with quality road infrastructure, such that, it now takes lesser time to move from one local government area to another local government area. While thanking the Governor, he urged politicians not to distract him, but rather pray for him to continue to succeed so as to emerge as a jinx breaker, who will successfully produce a successor.

The Member Representing Obowo State Constituency at the Imo State House Of Assembly, Rt Honourable Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh, who was represented by his Chief Of Staff, Hon Barrister Kelechi Onyegbule, PhD, eulogized the initiator and facilitator of the ICT centre for his vision, steadfastness and love for his community. While highlighting the importance and necessity of education and Information Technology in today’s world, the Prolific lawmaker noted that education, though priceless, should be handed over a valuable skill set, relevant to the growth and development of our youths.

To add more value to the ICT centre, the ranking lawmaker pledged to establish, within the next two months, an ultramodern lavatory, as well as installing a befitting solar energy light.

Rt Honourable Ibeh supported the book launch, describing it as “a very rich intellectual deposit”.

He also commended the State Governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, describing him as a leader who does more of doing and has remained focused in serving Ndimo, while his achievements speak for him.

Also speaking, Hon Dr Emeka Mandela Ukaegbu, Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Talent Hunt, described the commissioning of the ICT centre as very symbolic, as the facilitator, Mayor Theodore Okechukwu Aguh, has followed in the footsteps of the visionary leadership of Governor Uzodimma. While commending Mayor Theodore Aguh, the Youthful Commissioner encouraged other men and women of goodwill to emulate him.

The Youth Commissioner described the review of the book, “History of Umuezeala Kindred In Amato-Alike-Obowo” as commendable.

Others who also spoke included, Princess Nkechi Mbachu and Prof Sylvanus Atulayo Onuoha, who reviewed the book, while Hrh Eze Micheal Iroariuna Ogbonna, The Eze Ohachoro 11 of Amato-Alike-Obowo Autonomous Community blessed the kolanut. Rev Father Francis Okoro said the opening prayer.

The Highlight of the occasion was the commissioning of the ICT centre by the Governor’s representative, Hon Barrister Chief Enyinnaya Onuegbu (Ebekuodike).

The National Association Of Nigerian Students, (NANS) presented an Award, “in service of the technological development of children and youths” to Mayor Theodore Okechukwu Aguh.

There were also Empowerments packages for some of the unemployed youths, less privileged men and women. This is aimed in keeping them away from criminality.

The colourful occasion attracted very many prominent citizens of the state including :

  8. Hon Chinonso Ihueke (Councillor for Alike Ward).
  9. Chief Barrister Ihesinulo Mbadiwe, who served as the MC.
  10. Amongst many others.
