The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okigwe zone has taken bold steps to reposition itself as a political force, holding a high-powered stakeholders meeting to address internal challenges and build a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during the meeting on July 6, 2025, State Vice Chairman of PDP, Okigwe zone, Chief Amb. Chuks Ajaelu, emphasized the need for unity and collective action among party leaders and members to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“It is a normal thing to quarrel in a family. But in doing that, every member of the family should know its boundaries. What is important is how the family is formidably united after a minor misunderstanding. PDP is a big family that can’t be divided by mere internal squabbles,” Ajaelu stated.
The stakeholders unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the National Secretary of PDP, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, and the Imo State PDP Chairman, Hon Austin Nwachukwu, citing their “unusual performances” and leadership in keeping the party vibrant in Imo State.
Ajaelu lauded party leaders for their commitment to peace and reconciliation and called on them to remain steadfast and avoid actions capable of derailing the PDP’s efforts to restore the confidence of the people.
“We at the PDP are building a platform that will guarantee peace, development, quality education, good governance, infrastructural development, and security in Imo,” a prominent party leader said after the meeting.
Highpoints of the meeting included the formation of the Okigwe Zonal Reconciliation Committee tasked with reaching out to aggrieved party members across the zone.
In a symbolic gesture to strengthen unity and encourage cooperation, wrappers were presented to Okigwe Zonal Exco, LGA Chairmen, Women Leaders, and Youth Leaders.
The meeting was attended by notable leaders and stakeholders including High Chief Ray Agugua, Chief Kizzy Ajaelu JP, Dr Emeka Onyema, Chief Victor Diala, Louis Anuka, and LGA Chairmen—Hon. Pastor Emma Okoye (Okigwe LGA), Chief Iyke Ajero (Isiala Mbano), Anayo Ononiwu (Ihitte Uboma), Emeka Alex Ubenwune (Onuimo), and Hon. Engr. Egbukichi (Obowo).
Also present were Hon. Duru Godwin (Ehime Mbano), Hon. Lancelot Obiaku, as well as chairmanship candidates from Obowo, Ihitte Uboma, Ehime Mbano, and Onuimo LGAs. Other critical stakeholders drawn from across the six LGAs of Okigwe zone were in attendance.
