The Imo State Police Command has announced a ban on the use of unmarked vehicles, mini-buses, and tricycles (Keke) by its tactical teams during patrols.
In a statement signed by DSP Henry Okoye, Police Public Relations officer, Imo State Police Command, the directive, issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, is in response to widespread complaints of harassment, intimidation, and extortion by some officers operating in such vehicles.
Describing the practice as “grossly unprofessional,” CP Danjuma warned that any team found violating the order will face strict sanctions, and their commanders will be held vicariously liable.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and ethical policing, aligning with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police to restore public confidence in law enforcement.
The Police urged members of the public to report any violations of the directive, assuring that all tactical units have been instructed to comply without exception.
