Ahead of the 2027 Imo Governorship election, a youth leader from Orlu Zone, Prince Izunna Obiefule (JP), has declared that former Governor Ikedi Ohakim stands out as the best among all aspirants for the position.
Obiefule, who spoke to newsmen in Owerri over the weekend, said the ongoing projects and policies of Governor Hope Uzodinma require an experienced leader like Ohakim to sustain and complete them.
He noted that the state cannot afford to lose the momentum already set by the incumbent administration.
He called on the people of Owerri Zone to rise above what he described as “parochial sentiment of our turn” and instead support Ohakim in 2027 to ensure that Imo remains on the fast lane of development as witnessed under Uzodinma.
“What Imo people need at the moment is an experienced administrator with the capacity to sustain the infrastructural development put in place by Uzodimma and not the other way round,” Obiefule said.
The Orlu-born youth leader, who is also an astute businessman, urged groups in Owerri Zone such as the Owerri Zone Leaders of Thought and OZOPOLF to “hearken to the voice of reason” by backing Ohakim.
According to him, Ohakim’s candidacy presents a win-win situation as he has only one constitutionally provided term, after which Owerri Zone can rightfully take over the governorship.
“The few years Ohakim spent as Governor, Imo people still attest to the good jobs and policies he initiated; hence, the need to give him the opportunity to better the State,” he added.
Obiefule insisted that supporting Ohakim would not only consolidate Uzodinma’s achievements but also set the stage for a seamless transfer of power to Owerri Zone after one term.
He maintained that the political stability and development of Imo should be placed above narrow zonal interests, emphasizing the importance of collective reasoning in determining the political future of the State.
