The South East Coalition for Good Governance (SECG) has fired a blistering warning to Peter Obi, urging him to completely reject any overtures from FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The group described Wike’s alleged move as a sinister plot to drag Obi’s presidential ambition into the mud and permanently derail his political momentum.
There are strong speculations that the PDP and Wike are reaching out to Obi to rejoin the party following the exit and resignation of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar last week. Obi was PDP’s Vice Presidential candidate in 2019, while Atiku then was the party’s presidential candidate.
In a statement in Enugu signed by SECG President, Collins Osueke and Chima Offah, the coalition declared that any engagement between Obi and Wike would amount to “political suicide,” describing Wike as a serial betrayer whose only mission is to destroy viable opposition figures on behalf of his new APC allies.
“This is not a genuine invitation but a deadly snare. Wike’s real agenda is to lure Peter Obi into PDP so that he and his collaborators can strangle his presidential bid before it gathers steam,”
“Obi should know better than to walk into the poisonous embrace of Wike and his leprous PDP,” SECG stated.
The group accused Wike of acting as a Trojan horse for the APC, citing his role in undermining PDP’s presidential efforts in 2023. SECG further alleged that Wike’s political gamesmanship, which reportedly involved backdoor deals with Bola Tinubu, was instrumental in PDP’s electoral collapse.
“Wike has no credibility left. He worked tirelessly to undermine Atiku Abubakar’s campaign and handed APC a clear path to victory. Now he wants to extend his betrayal to Obi. What does Wike take Obi for—a political neophyte or a fool?” the group fired.
SECG warned that any attempt by Obi to return to PDP would spell doom for his movement and cost him the massive goodwill he currently enjoys nationwide. According to the coalition, the PDP is mow “a political slaughter slab” where presidential ambitions are killed without mercy.
“Obi must see Wike’s hand for what it is—a dagger aimed at his back. He must stay far away and not even allow Wike close enough for a handshake. To do otherwise is to risk being politically dismembered,” SECG cautioned.
The group urged Obi to consolidate his base within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as the most realistic platform to actualize his presidential aspiration in 2027. It warned that a return to PDP would only embolden Wike and his “gang of collaborators” to snuff out Obi’s growing political influence.
“Obi must understand that Nigerians see him as the face of a new political order. Aligning with Wike or PDP would be interpreted as a betrayal of that hope and could scatter his support base irreparably,” SECG stated.
SECG reiterated that Obi must not even entertain discussions with Wike, describing PDP under Wike’s influence as a toxic swamp.
“This is a man whose history of betrayal is written in bold letters. Obi must resist the trap, or risk seeing his 2027 dream buried in PDP’s political graveyard,” the group warned.
