Dumebi Kachikwu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has alleged that the much-hyped ADC-led coalition was nothing but a political ruse tailored to advance Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambition.
Speaking on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme, Kachikwu did not hold back, accusing key players in the coalition of misleading Nigerians under the guise of unity.
“We can see what is happening within the coalition. Someone like Mr Peter Obi now understands that the whole coalition was packaged for Atiku Abubakar,” Kachikwu declared.
According to him, Obi — the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer — is already exploring options to exit the alliance.
“From our understanding, what we are seeing now is that he is looking in other directions,” Kachikwu said.
He added that several political actors who initially bought into the coalition now see it for what it is: a vehicle designed solely for Atiku’s return to power.
“Other people who aspire to run now realise that the coalition was indeed no coalition — it was just a vehicle for Atiku Abubakar’s ambition,” Kachikwu said.
The ADC chieftain warned that the 2027 general election must not become another platform for “class exploitation” by entrenched political elites.
Kachikwu, who has been a vocal critic of Nigeria’s power brokers, vowed to keep Nigerians “informed and educated” as the election cycle approaches.
“This time, the electorate must see through these deceptions and reject any attempts to hijack their collective will,” he asserted.
