The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it is on the verge of receiving two serving governors from the South-East into its ranks, as part of its plan to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed by the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-East), Chilos Godsent, in a statement in Owerri.
He added that consultations were already at an advanced stage, stating that the development was part of the zone’s broader strategy to reposition the ADC as a viable alternative in the region.
“We are preparing to receive two serving governors from the South-East into the ADC fold. The consultations are ongoing, and very soon, they will officially announce their decision,” Godsent stated.
He also revealed that several lawmakers — both at the federal and state levels — were in talks with the party and would publicly join the ADC in the coming months.
“Some members of the House of Representatives and various State Assemblies are also making plans to decamp to ADC,” he said.
According to the statement, a federal lawmaker, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the planned defection, stating that their decision to align with the ADC was driven by a need to “join forces with progressives to eject the Ahmed Bola Tinubu-led government of poverty and hardship in 2027.”
The ADC Zonal leader emphasized that the South-East zone of the party remains determined to deliver the region to the ADC in the next general elections, stating that “The South-East is ready for a political reset, and the ADC is the platform to lead that charge.”
