Rangers boss. Russell Martin has delivered a welcome boost to fans with a positive injury update on striker, Cyriel Dessers following concerns over a potential long-term layoff.
The Nigeria international picked up a knee injury during the Light Blues’ UEFA Champions League qualifying clash against Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday night, limping off in the 54th minute of the high-stakes encounter.
Initial fears within the club suggested the 30-year-old could be out for an extended period, a prospect that worried supporters given his importance to Rangers’ attack.
However, speaking at a press conference on Friday, Martin calmed those concerns, revealing the prognosis was far better than anticipated.
“Cyriel Dessers’ injury was not as bad as we thought; he is still sore but he will be back in the coming weeks,” the manager assured.
Dessers, who has been in solid form for the Scottish giants, is now expected to return to action sooner rather than later, giving Rangers a timely boost as they continue their domestic and European campaigns.
In the meantime, Rangers will turn their attention to Saturday’s Premier Sports Cup Round of 16 tie at Ibrox against Alloa Athletic, where Martin will likely rotate his squad to cope with a busy fixture schedule.
