Former Majority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Lugard Osuji, has thrown his weight for a competent successor from Owerri zone to take over from Governor Hope Uzodimma in 2027.

He advised that competence must be the deciding factor in Uzodimma’s eventual choice, stressing that anything less would put Imo at risk.

Speaking to INNONEWS from the United Kingdom, Osuji maintained that only a competent hand can effectively govern the State.

He also maintained that he has never been a believer in the Charter of Equity and zoning, stressing that competence should be the major factor in selecting a sucessor for the Governor rather than zoning.

“The future of Imo State cannot be toyed with. We need someone from Owerri zone with the right education, competence, and vision to lead Imo. It is not about Charter of Equity or zoning. Competence is the key” he declared.

According to him, political stability and preservation of the state’s development agenda are possible only if the baton shifts to a credible and competent person.

He noted that competence is not about mere popularity but about proven capacity, vision, and integrity to manage the affairs of the state effectively.

Osuji further explained that Owerri zone possesses an array of competent leaders with impeccable records in public service, the private sector, business, politics and other fields of human endeavour.

“We are not short of men and women of integrity who can step into the leadership of the state and drive Imo forward. I also call on other well meaning Owerri zone people to support my call for a competent person to take over from Governor Hope Uzodimma”

“No governor lasts forever, but the decisions they make echo for generations. This is the decision Uzodimma must get right,” Osuji concluded.
