The Forum of Former Members of the Imo State House of Assembly (FOMIHA) has described the abduction of its member, Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, as a direct test of leadership for Governor Hope Uzodimma, urging him to act decisively to secure the lawmaker’s release.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe, FOMIHA said it received with “deep shock and grave concern” the disturbing news of Ogbu’s kidnap at Ihube in Okigwe Local Government Area.
According to the group, Ogbu was on his way to his community to consult on burial arrangements for his late mother when he was abducted. The development, it said, has thrown the former lawmaker’s family and colleagues into turmoil.
The forum lamented that a disturbing video emerged on social media showing Ogbu in a dehumanized state, with his captors threatening to take his life if their demands were not met.
“This development is not only heartbreaking but also totally unacceptable. Hon. Ogbu is a peaceful man, a lover of youths, and one who has over the years touched the lives of many young people across Okigwe,” the statement read.
FOMIHA stressed that Ogbu, who is still mourning his mother, does not deserve to suffer such torment, especially given his fragile health condition. It added that the incident has further highlighted the fragile security situation in the state.
The group called on security agencies in Imo State to immediately swing into action, describing the matter as a test of their responsiveness and capacity to protect citizens.
“The world is watching Imo State,” the forum warned, noting that the handling of the case would send a strong message about the state’s seriousness in addressing insecurity.
Specifically, FOMIHA urged Governor Uzodimma to deploy the full machinery of government towards ensuring Ogbu’s safe release. “This is a test of leadership, and history will not forgive inaction at such a critical moment,” Nzekwe stated.
The group concluded by insisting that Imo State cannot afford to let the incident linger, adding: “The life of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu must be saved now.”
