Akpom: Playing For Nigeria Would Be An Honour

by innonews

Ipswich Town striker, Chuba Akpom, has restated his commitment to represent Nigeria at international level.

The 29-year-old, born in the UK to Nigerian parents, previously featured for England across youth categories but never made the senior team.

Despite standout spells at Middlesbrough and Ajax, Akpom has yet to earn a Super Eagles call-up. He confirmed in a chat with TWTD that he has completed the necessary documentation to switch allegiance.

“They’ve made me do the passport stuff. My agent has been in contact with the manager [Éric Chelle] and they’ve always liked me,” Akpom said.

The forward admitted he is keeping faith with the process and would not hesitate if the opportunity arises. “If I was to get called up, it would be an honour of course,” he added.

Nigeria’s national team selectors have previously overlooked Akpom, but his latest remarks suggest he is now closer than ever to donning the green and white jersey.
