The United States has issued a fresh warning that corrupt Nigerian government officials could face visa restrictions.
The US Mission in Nigeria, in a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, stressed that accountability applies to all, including high-profile individuals.
“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving US Visas,” the Mission said.
Washington has in the past slammed visa bans on politicians accused of electoral malpractice and undermining democratic processes. The latest warning comes amid growing concerns over mismanagement of public funds and abuse of office across different levels of government.
According to the US, visa restrictions remain part of its broader push to promote good governance, transparency, and the rule of law in Nigeria and other partner nations.
