Imo State witnessed scenes of joy and celebration as President Ahmed Bola Tinubu commissioned a series of landmark projects in the state, and among the voices of commendation was that of Maj. Gen. Sunday Chikwe (Rtd), a former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, who congratulated Governor Hope Uzodinma for what he described as “a historic moment in the annals of Imo’s development.”
During the visit, President Tinubu inaugurated the 52km Mbaise–Umuahia Road, the Control–Assumpta Twin Flyover, and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre (EIICC), all of which are now open for public use. The events were marked with cultural displays, music, and jubilations, with citizens describing the projects as transformative for the state’s future.
Maj. Gen. Chikwe, in a statement issued in Owerri, praised Governor Uzodinma for his vision and commitment to infrastructural renewal.
“Governor Uzodinma has once again demonstrated that true leadership is about delivering results. The successful hosting of President Tinubu and the commissioning of these projects are proof of his determination to leave a lasting legacy for Imo people,” he said.
Chikwe, who also served as Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, commended the governor for going beyond the newly commissioned projects to deliver on other critical infrastructure. He cited the Owerri–Orlu Road, Owerri–Okigwe Road, and the newly completed Owerri–Umuahia Road, among others, as evidence of a deliberate strategy to open up the state and drive development.
“These projects are not just roads and bridges, they are lifelines that connect communities, boost commerce, and improve the lives of ordinary people. They will stand as monuments to purposeful governance,” he added.
The retired General concluded with a prayer for the future of the state:
“It is my sincere prayer that when Governor Uzodinma completes his tenure, Imo will be blessed with another leader of his caliber—visionary, people-oriented, and committed to progress. Continuity of this kind of leadership is what our state truly needs.”
The commissioning ceremonies have since been described by many stakeholders as a new dawn for Imo, reflecting both the governor’s developmental strides and the confidence reposed in him by the people.
