The Imo State Government has announced a strict ban on loading and offloading of passengers, as well as trading and hawking, within the Control Post Flyover precincts in Owerri.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Ralph Nwosu, the government declared that the flyover was built strictly for vehicular movement and not to serve as a motor park or a marketplace.
The Control Post Flyover, a major infrastructural landmark in the state capital, was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu on September 30, 2026.
The statement emphasized that any form of loading, offloading, hawking, or street trading within the flyover area is prohibited, adding that the government is determined to maintain both the safety and aesthetic appeal of the strategic infrastructure.
“The Control Post Flyover is strictly designated for vehicular traffic and not for loading and offloading of passengers. Hawking and trading of any kind within the flyover area are also strictly forbidden,” the statement said.
It further warned individuals without legitimate business in the area to desist from loitering, stressing that anyone caught roaming the vicinity without lawful purpose, whether during the day or night, would be apprehended and prosecuted.
According to the Works Ministry, the enforcement of this directive will be firm and uncompromising. “Government will deal decisively with any individual or persons found violating this enforcement,” the statement warned.
The government urged transport operators, traders, and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to comply with the directive, assuring that monitoring teams have been deployed to enforce compliance.
“We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the general public in this regard, as these measures are designed to maintain order and discipline in the state’s transportation system,” the statement concluded.
