The Director of the Agribusiness Incubation Centre, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Dr. Philips Nto, was among 255 proud parents whose children were, at the weekend, formally inducted as medical doctors by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

His son, Dr. Uchenna Okore Nto, and his colleagues graduated from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ortuanya, described them as proud ambassadors of the premier indigenous university.
The ceremony, which held in Enugu, featured admonitions from the MDCN, the guest lecturer, the Vice Chancellor, and the Provost of the College of Medicine, all urging the new doctors to exhibit utmost professionalism and humanism in the discharge of their duties.
Prof. Fatima Kyari, Registrar of the MDCN, commended the authorities of UNN for sustaining the highest standards in the training of medical doctors, a legacy for which the university is renowned.
Prof. Kyari, who was represented by Dr. Tijani, charged the new doctors to always uphold the ethics of the profession by maintaining moral practice and treating everyone with respect and dignity.
The Registrar also urged them to refrain from acts that could warrant disciplinary action by the Council, stressing the need to remain worthy representatives of the profession.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Enugu Campus, said the 255 doctors, drawn from the Class of 2024, were trained in line with the long-standing academic tradition of the university.
While wishing them success in their future careers, the Vice Chancellor charged them to always be good ambassadors of the institution.
Parents of Dr. Uchenna Okore Nto — Dr. Philips and Dr. Chioma Nto — in their remarks to newsmen, expressed gratitude to God for leading their son through the rigours of qualifying as a medical doctor.
Dr. Uchenna Okore Nto served as the Class Representative of the Class of 2024 and also as President of the University of Nigeria Medical Students’ Association (UNMSA).
