The ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a fresh twist as Dr. Ikenna Onuoha, Special Adviser on Media to the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has accused the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, of attempting to mislead the public and sow division within the party.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Dr. Onuoha dismissed Ologunagba’s reported comments that the duties of the PDP National Secretary were limited to “taking care of diesel and assigning parking spaces” as both “ridiculous and ignorant.”
He said, “This statement, if indeed it came from a supposed party spokesperson, is an indication that he lacks the requisite knowledge of the PDP Constitution, particularly as it concerns the functions and responsibilities of the office of the National Secretary.”
According to Dr. Onuoha, Hon. Ologunagba’s attempt to trivialize the office of the National Secretary shows he is “either mischievously uninformed or deliberately out to cause disaffection and weaken the unity of the party.”
Citing Section 36(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), Onuoha explained that the National Secretary is the “Chief Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Party,” with powers to supervise the day-to-day activities of the PDP, handle official correspondences, and issue notices for key party meetings including those of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC).
“The constitution clearly empowers the National Secretary to keep all records of party proceedings, render annual reports to NEC, ensure implementation of all directives of the party’s organs, and serve as custodian of the party’s common seal,” he stated.
Onuoha added that Senator Anyanwu’s responsibilities go far beyond the petty insinuations credited to Hon. Ologunagba, stressing that “the office of the National Secretary remains the engine room of the PDP’s operations and the heart of its administrative framework.”
He further cautioned that such divisive and uninformed remarks could destabilize the PDP at a time when internal unity and strategic focus are most needed. “Rather than adopting negative and malicious narratives capable of damaging the PDP’s image, party officials should work to strengthen its internal cohesion and electoral preparedness,” Onuoha advised.
According to him, Senator Anyanwu has consistently demonstrated loyalty, competence, and maturity in the discharge of his constitutional duties, always acting in the best interest of the PDP. “No amount of mischief or falsehood will distract the National Secretary from fulfilling his duties as enshrined in the PDP Constitution,” he affirmed.
Onuoha also accused Ologunagba and “his co-travelers” of deliberately fanning the embers of discord through provocative statements and public misrepresentations, warning that such behavior would not be tolerated indefinitely.
“Senator Anyanwu will continue to uphold his oath of allegiance and preserve the PDP against internal sabotage and external invasion,” Onuoha declared. “His commitment to the survival, unity, and growth of the party remains unwavering.” the statement concluded.
