The President General of OrluZurumee and former member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ugochukwu Nzekwe, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment as a strategic approach to tackling insecurity, poverty, and marginalization in the Orlu Senatorial Zone.
Nzekwe said his leadership is prioritizing the economic empowerment of young people through quality education, vocational training, technology, and entrepreneurship, adding that youth engagement is key to ending crime and violence in the region.
He made the remarks while receiving leaders of the OrluZurumee Youth Assembly (OYA) at his office in Amakohia, Owerri North Local Government Area, on Friday.
“OrluZurumee is focused on empowering the youths of Orlu Senatorial Zone by engaging them in meaningful ventures and skill acquisition. This is the only way to reduce crime, sustain peace, and promote development in Orlu Zone,” Nzekwe stated.
He urged political office holders — including senators, members of the House of Representatives, Imo State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, appointees, and other affluent individuals from Orlu — to provide economic opportunities for young people in their communities. According to him, such efforts would permanently tackle the root causes of crime and insecurity in the zone.
The OrluZurumee leader also advised the executives of OYA to remain steadfast in projecting and defending the interests of youths in the zone. He noted that the youth are critical to peacebuilding, community development, and unity, stressing that there is no faction or division within OrluZurumee.
Congratulating the new OYA leadership for conducting a peaceful and credible election, several prominent members of OrluZurumee, including former lawmaker Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Obiefule, Assistant Organizing Secretary Comr. Emejuru Theddius, Publicity Secretary COS-Ukwuoma Nnamdi, Dr. Chris Ekwueme, and Chief Maduwuike Emmanuel, Coordinator of Coordinators, urged the youth body to intensify grassroots enlightenment across the 12 local government areas of Orlu Zone.
They charged OYA leaders to remain focused on promoting the values, objectives, and programs of OrluZurumee, which, they said, remains the foremost socio-cultural organization representing the collective interests of Orlu Zone.
In their joint remarks, the President and Secretary General of OrluZurumee Youth Assembly, Prince Izunna Obiefule and Nze Dim Chibuike, thanked the OrluZurumee leadership for the warm reception accorded them.
They assured that the youth body would not disappoint the people of Orlu Zone, pledging to work for unity, peace, and progress.
Obiefule and Nze also appealed to the youths of the zone to shun violence, embrace hard work, discipline, and godliness as pathways to success and stability.
They reaffirmed that OrluZurumee remains a socio-cultural organization that speaks for, protects, and advances the collective interests and aspirations of Orlu Zone.
