The Imo State Government has directed the commencement of a six-week intensive training programme for prospective teachers who have been interviewed for employment in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
The directive, issued by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. B. T. O. Ikegwuoha, was contained in an official memo dated October 8, 2025, and addressed to the Provost of the Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma.
According to the memo, the training will begin on October 21, 2025, and will run in phases across the three senatorial zones of the state — Okigwe, Owerri, and Orlu. Each zone will undergo a two-week session designed to build the competence and classroom management skills of the participants.
The schedule shows that the Okigwe Zone will hold its training from October 21 to November 7, followed by the Owerri Zone from November 11 to 28, while the Orlu Zone will conclude the exercise between December 2 and 19, 2025.
Prof. Ikegwuoha emphasized that the training is strictly for prospective and interviewed teachers awaiting employment, noting that non-tutorial and yet-to-be-employed staff are not part of the programme.
He explained that the initiative aligns with the directive of Governor Hope Uzodinma, aimed at enhancing and strengthening the capacity of prospective teachers within the state’s primary and secondary education system.
The Education Commissioner further urged the Provost to make all necessary arrangements for the smooth implementation of the programme, assuring that the exercise would contribute significantly to improving the quality of teaching and learning in Imo schools.
