In a remarkable show of compassion and community service, the Oganihu Owerri International Club on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, reached out to three motherless babies homes across Owerri Zone, donating cash, food items, and clothing to support the welfare of children in need.
The outreach—part of the Club’s annual humanitarian initiative—took the team to Ancilla Motherless Babies Home, Emekuku (Owerri North LGA); Save a Child Motherless Babies Home, World Bank Estate (Owerri West LGA); and the Red Cross Motherless Babies Home, Owerri (Owerri Municipal Council).
Led by the Club President, Hon. Sir Vital Opara, and the Chairman of the Visit Committee, Hon. Nze Ray Emeaña, the delegation departed Owerri at exactly 9:00 a.m., kicking off the day’s activities at Ancilla Motherless Babies Home, Emekuku. Members, elegantly dressed in white-on-white attire and the Club’s signature Okpu Nwagoro, presented food items, clothing, and a ₦300,000 cheque to the management. The children responded with songs of gratitude and prayers for their benefactors.
At the second stop—Save a Child Motherless Babies Home, World Bank Estate—the atmosphere was equally spirited. The management, led by Mrs. Mela, expressed appreciation as the Club presented another ₦300,000 cheque alongside food items including yams, noodles, and beverages. The event featured prayers, songs, and a group photograph to mark the moment.
The final visit of the day took the delegation to the Red Cross Motherless Babies Home in Owerri Municipal around 4:00 p.m. There, members handed over yet another ₦300,000 cheque and assorted gift items after moments of singing and prayer.
Following the visits, members converged at Owerri Club for light refreshments and reflection. Many described the experience as emotional and inspiring, pledging to sustain the initiative as part of the Club’s social responsibility commitment.
Speaking shortly after the visits, Hon. Sir Vital Opara said the outreach reflects the Club’s values of compassion, unity, and social responsibility. He said, “We are not only building ourselves but giving back to society, especially to those who need love and care.”
Also speaking, Hon. Nze Ray Emeaña, Chairman of the Visit Committee, commended members for their generosity and described the experience as humbling and transformative. He said, “True leadership is not about power or position but about empathy and service.”
The outreach reaffirmed the Club’s mission of advancing social welfare, promoting solidarity, and upholding human dignity across the Owerri Zone and beyond.
