President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ikechukwu Ugwuegede as the South-East representative on the board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Ugwuegede previously served as chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) from 2011 to 2015.
He also contested to represent the Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives during the 2019 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The president had earlier submitted a list of nominees for the NCC board to the Senate without any representative from the South-East, a move that drew criticism from stakeholders in the region.
In a fresh letter to the Senate, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary, Tinubu announced the nomination of Ugwuegede to fill the regional slot.
Other confirmed members of the NCC board include Idris Olorunnimbe as chairman (South-West), Aminu Maida as executive vice-chairman (North-West), and Abraham Oshadami as executive commissioner, technical services (North-Central).
Also on the board are Rimini Makama as executive commissioner, stakeholder management (North-East); Hajia Maryam Bayi; Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (rtd); Senator Lekan Mustafa (South-West); Chris Okorie (South-South); and Princess Oforitsenere Emiko (commissioner, South-South).
“While it is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominees in the usual expeditious manner, please accept, distinguished senators and distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards,” Tinubu said in the letter.
